The Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) programme* is a four-year integrated professional degree programme of Elementary Teacher Education offered after the senior secondary (class XII) stage of school. This programme is a bilingual programme. Conceptualized by the Maulana Azad Centre for Elementary and Social Education (MACESE) of the Department of Education, University of Delhi. Launched in the academic year 1994-95, the programme is an attempt towards fulfilling the need for professionally qualified elementary school teachers. B.El.Ed. is designed to integrate the study of subject knowledge, human development, pedagogical knowledge and communication skills. Both professional and academic options are available to the students who graduate with a B.El.Ed. degree.

The introduction of the B.El.Ed. programme in undergraduate colleges of the University of Delhi marks a move towards the creation of a cadre of Elementary Education professionals – a long awaited promise, beginning with the conception of the Central Institute of Education in 1947. Through the B.El.Ed. programme, concerns of elementary education have been integrated into the University system with Delhi University taking the lead. It has also upgraded the professional status of the elementary school teacher by providing for a University degree for elementary education. At present, the programme is being offered in eight women colleges of the University of Delhi.

Applying for Admission to the B.El.Ed. Programme

(i) Before filling in the application form, candidates are advised to read the Prospectus carefully
and ensure their eligibility for admission, as per the conditions laid down in the Prospectus.

(ii) Duly completed ICR (Intelligent Computer Recogniser) application form, along with the
Acknowledgement Receipt (enclosed in the prospectus) should be submitted at the
Department of Education (CIE), University of Delhi, latest by Wednesday, June 09, 2010 by
4:00 p.m. No public dealing will be done on Sundays and gazetted holidays. No plea for
postal delay will be entertained.

(iii) Candidates sending application by post may use an envelope of appropriate size to contain
the envelope with ICR Form and Acknowledgement Slip. The duly filled application should
be sent by registered post and to reach the Dean, Faculty of Education, Department of
Education (CIE) University of Delhi, 33, Chhatra Marg, Delhi – 110 007, on or before Monday,
June 07, 2010.

Established in 1967, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Sardar Patel College of Communication and Management Delhi is a constituent college of Rajendra Prasad institute of Communication and Management, Bombay. Introduction: The academic year, which starts normally in July and ends in March is divided into two terms. August to November and December to March. The number of working days during the year is approximately 180. The college observes all public holidays as notified by the Government of India.

Eligibility: Only graduates of a recognised University are eligible for admission. Those who have appeared for final graduation examination may be admitted provisionally, but if they do not produce evidence of graduation before 30th of September 2010 they will cease to be students and will forfeit the fee paid. Attendance:
(a) A minimum of 65 % attendance at lectures is required, in each term and/ or on the whole.
(b) The candidate who has not qualified himself/herself with the minimum required attendance may, however, make up for the deficiency in the immediately subsequent academic year, and appear in the subsequent year’s examination.
(c) In such an event where a candidate makes up the deficit in minimum attendance of 65% required, he/she shall pay only the proportionate tuition fees for the term or terms put in the subsequent year, as the case may be, and as fixed by the Principal/Director.
(d) Ten marks will be given for regularity of attendance.
