Jain Vishva Bharati University (JVBU): A Profile
Jain Vishva Bharati University as an University of higher learning and research blended with spirituality, which came into existence in 1991. JVBU’s avowed aim is to integrate academic knowledge and its application for evolving a new social pattern based on non-violence and peace.
“Nanassa Saram Ayaro — Right conduct is the essence of knowledge.” This spiritual voice of Lord Mahaviara is the motto of the University. Every programme and every activity is directed towards the realisation of this motto. The goal of the JVBU has been clearly spelt out in the preamble of JVBU constitution (Memorandum and Articles of Association) which reads as under:
The Jain Vishva Bharati University is an endeavour in the direction of putting into practice, to promote and propagate the high ideals of Anekant (Non-absolutist outlook), Ahimsa (Non-violence), tolerance and peaceful co-existence for the well being of mankind.
The mission is to integrate modern science with ancient wisdom given to us by great spiritual practitioners and visionary seers. The Institution seeks to interweave moral & spiritual norms and values with the materialistic and economic fibers of mankind to foster and develop universal human relationships for the peaceful co-existence of individuals, groups, communities, sects, races, sexes, religions, nations and peoples.
The University provides reverential study courses in Jainology; in Comparative Philosophy & Religion, Non-violence and Peace Science of Living, Preksha Meditation and Yoga, Prakrit and Jain Agamas and Social Work for development of a more balanced human being and humanity. And also on line courses for students residing abroard/ India on Jainology & Comparative studies.
The Understanding Jainism Programme (UJP) of the JVBU emphasizes Jain Philosophy, Ethics, Meditation, Art & Architecture and life-style in India. It is interdisciplinary in nature, with participating faculty of the Humanities, Social Sciences and Linguistics.

Objectives
i. To understand the concept and ideas of Jainism.
ii. To develop understanding and attitude of nonviolence.
iii. To familiarize the participants with the philosophy of creative nonviolence in India.
iv. To impart training of Preksha Meditation for emotionally balanced life-style.
v. To establish the importance and relevance of amity for the survival of living being.

The program is aimed for foreign students provided they meet the general prerequisite of proficiency in English. The following could be possible applicants:

􀁺 Higher education Universitys or Council of International Education
􀁺 NRI groups or associations
􀁺 Trade & Business Delegations or groups
􀁺 Individual students.

Course Credits
The programme has three credits in a 3-week duration. The number of credits a student can take in this programme depends on the agreements with individual students or agreement reached with the University or participating institution.

Other highlights of the Programme
i. Visit to historical places in and around Ladnun.
ii. Interaction with spiritual leaders, Jain monks and nuns, journalists, intellectuals, scientists and Gandhian activists.

Qualifying Conditions:
􀁺 The course will be held in smoke free campus. Only those who can abstain from smoking should apply.
􀁺 No alcoholic drinks, tobacco are permitted in the campus.
􀁺 Only vegetarian food is served and allowed in the campus.

Facilities Provided
Boarding and Lodging arrangements for students joining the UJP will be made in the campus.

Fee Structure
Fee for 3-week course including boarding and lodging is of US $ 500, concession is also available on special request.

Location
The University is located in Ladnun, a small township in the Nagaur District of Rajasthan (India), representing the ancient Indian Gurukul tradition. Its smoke, drug and pollution-free campus provides an excellent environment for studies and research. Surrounded by sand dunes, it has a green leafy setting and peaceful atmosphere, which can make a person forget the hustle and bustle of cities and tensions of a busy industrial life.
Ladnun is 380 kms. west of Delhi, the Capital city of India, and 215 kms. North West of Jaipur, which is known as the Pink City and the Capital of the State of Rajasthan. It is well served by deluxe and express bus services from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Delhi and other cities. The nearest airports are Jaipur and Jodhpur.
