Applications are invited from interested students for the award of Junior Research Fellowships of the Department of Atomic Energy tenable at the Centre. FELLOWSHIP AND TENURE :
The selected candidates will be initially taken as Junior Research Fellows(JRF) and will be paid a stipend of Rs.12,000/- per month (consolidated). The fellowship will be provided initially for a period of two years. Continuation of the fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance and review at the end of each year. On satisfactory performance, the tenure of Fellowship will be further extended and upgraded to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) from the third year onwards with a stipend of Rs.14,000/- per month (consolidated). The total period of the fellowship shall in no case exceed five years. They are entitled for annual book allowance. Subsidised furnished bachelor accommodation will be provided during the tenure.

The candidate must have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree from a recognized University in one of the following disciplines.
1) Physics or Materials Science: Mathematics/Numerical Methods must be one of the subjects studied at the M.Sc. level and Chemistry as an ancillary subject up to B.Sc. level.
2) Chemistry: Physics and Mathematics must be studied as ancillary subjects up to B.Sc. level.
3) Applied Physics: Mathematics/Numerical methods must be one of the subjects studied at the M.Sc. level and Chemistry as an ancillary subject up to B.Sc. level.
Category-B
(Those who have already completed B.E./B.Tech./ M.E/M.Tech/ B.S. or B.Sc. Engineering/B.Sc[Tech.] from a recognized University )
The candidate must have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in one of the engineering disciplines mentioned under Para IB. For B.E/B.Tech./B.S. or B.Sc. Engineering/ B.Sc. [Tech] candidates, GATE qualification is essential in any one of the following papers appropriate to the discipline of the qualifying degree:

Category-C
(Those who are doing final year/semester of M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech/B.S or B.Sc. Engineering/B.Sc.[Tech.]/M.E/M.Tech
The candidate should be in the final year/semester of M.Sc/B.E/B. Tech/B.S or B.Sc. Engineering/B.Sc[Tech] Degree course in recognized Universities in one of the disciplines mentioned under para IB. For B.E/B.Tech./B.S. or B.Sc. Engineering/B.Sc.[Tech.] candidates, GATE qualifications is essential as mentioned in Category –B. However, such candidates shall have acquired marks above 60% in the qualifying degrees before joining the Centre and a minimum aggregate of 60% in B.Sc. level (in the case of M.Sc). Relevant certificates to this effect should be submitted at the time of joining the Centre.
Candidates in all the categories should have had consistently good academic record during the previous year[s]/ semesters in M.Sc./ B.E/ B. Tech./ B.S. or B.Sc. Engineering/B.Sc.[Tech.]/M.E/M. Tech.
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT :
1. The candidate must be an Indian national.
2. The candidate should be less than 28 years of age as on 01.07. 2008 (date of birth 1st July 1980 or later). A relaxation of up to 5 years in age can be given in the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe, Physically Challenged applicants. A relaxation of up to 3 years in age can be given in the case of Other Backward Class applicants.
III - SELECTION PROCEDURE :
For Science Stream Candidates under Category –A or C:
Candidates will be selected from among the applicants for induction as JRF based on a WRITTEN TEST followed by INTERVIEW. However, candidates with 95 percentile or above in GATE (Physics or Chemistry), JEST / UGC CSIR NET scores or UGC CSIR NET research fellowship are exempted from Written Test and will be called for Interview directly.
It is proposed to conduct the Written Test at Chennai. Additional Centres at Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Indore will be considered depending on adequate number of candidates opting for these centers. Please indicate your choice centre in addition to Chennai.
For Engineering Candidates under Category B or C:
Suitable engineering candidates under these categories will be called for Interview directly.
Selection Interviews:
The Interview for all short listed candidates will be conducted at IGCAR, Kalpakkam/Chennai.
The list of candidates selected for the award of Junior Research Fellowship will be displayed on the IGCAR website. The selected candidates will also be informed by post.
The final induction of the selected candidates as JRFs will be subject to production of all necessary documents in original (Proof of Date of Birth/ caste certificate/physically challenged certificate if applicable, M.Sc./B.E/B.Tech. degree and Marks sheets, B.Sc. Marks sheets (if applicable) on the dates intimated to them by the department.
FOR CANDIDATES OF CATEGORY-C OF II ABOVE, FINAL INDUCTION AS JRFs IS SUBJECT TO SUBMISSION OF PROOF OF OBTAINING 60% MARKS IN THE QUALIFYING DEGREE EXAMINATIONS, AT THE TIME OF JOINING THE CENTRE.

The number of fellowships indicated in this advertisement is approximate and may vary as per the requirement at the time of final selection. Application are invited form General, Special Category including foreign Candidates from Countries Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore for admission to 80 seats in the three year M.D. (Siddha) Post-Graduate Course 2008-2009 session in the Government Siddha Medical College at Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli district and Chennai.
QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION (INDIAN/ FOREIGN CANDIDATES)
Candidate should possess a Degree in Siddha which find place in Schedule III and IV of the IMCC Act 1970 of Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi. A proof should be enclosed. The candidates should have registered their names with the Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical Council, Chennai.

SC/ST candidates domiciled in Tamil Nadu are exempted form payment of application fees of Rs.750/- if their signed, written request containing full residential address is accompanied by attested photocopy of Degree Certificate and an attested photocopy of Community Certificate. Application Forms are not transferable.
Candidates may also obtain application forms by post by enclosing with their letter and application fees (exempted for SC/ST Candidates) a self-addressed envelope of size 30cm x 20cm affixed with postage of Rs.50/- (Rupees Fifty only). Postal requests sent without postage paid envelope will be rejected.

The Employed/Unemployed Diploma holders, who have passed the Diploma examination at least two years before as on 06.05.2008 are only eligible.
NATIVITY:
Applications belonging to Tamil Nadu only eligible for admission to Part time B.E./B.Tech. Degree Courses. Thos who claim Tamil Nadu nativity must satisfy domicile conditions.
EMPLOYMENT AND PLACE OF WORK:
The employed candidates who are applying or admission to Part Time B.E./ B.Tech. Degree Courses in the above Engineering Colleges should necessarily be employed in Tamil Nadu State only and the distance between form the place of work and the college in which candidate desire to study should be within a distance of 90 km.
SPECIAL RESERVATION:
3% Seats are reserved for Physically Handicapped candidates

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
For MBA & MCA Programmes selection will be made based on the marks obtained in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) conducted by the Anna University on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu, following the Community-wise reservation as stipulated by the Government.
The candidate for other states except SC/ST candidates, will be considered under General Turn.
Therefore, the candidates (including other State candidates) who aspire for admission in the University of Madras, shall appear for the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) to be conducted on 17.05.2008.

Those who are appearing for University Final Year Examinations in April/May 2008, may also apply for TANCET 2008 and for admission to the MBA & MCA programmes in the University departments 15% supernumerary seats are available for MBA (Regular) and MCA programme for the Foreign National/NRI having a foreign passport and valid VISA, without Entrance Examination.
15% supernumerary seats are available for MBA Self-supportive for sponsored candidates. The sponsored candidates also must appear for TANCET. Candidates applying for self-supportive MBA programme should not undertake employment during the course.
DATE OF ENTRNCE EXAMINATION FOR M.PHIL & P.G. PROGRAMMES:
Those who appearing for University final year examination in April/May 2008 may also apply for all the programmes. The Entrance Examination will be held form 2nd June 2008 onwards. The Heads of the Department concerned will issue Hall-tickets indicating the place, date and time for Entrance Examination. Such of those candidates who have not received Hall-tickets intimate due to Postal delay etc. have to contact the Head of the department concerned for getting necessary permission to take Entrance examination.
ISSUE OF APPLICATIONS IN PERSON:
Application and Academic Prospectus can be had in person at the information center, University of Madras Chennai-600005 on payment of Rs.200/- (Rs.100/- for SC/ST candidates on production of Xerox copy of the community certificate) by cash for all the programmes.
ISSUE OF APPLICATIONS BY POST:
Those who want to obtain application and the Prospectus by Post have to send a written requisition specifying the name of the Programme together with a Demand Draft for a sum of Rs.250/- (Rs.200/0 towards cost of Application and Rs.50/- towards postage) drawn in favour of “The Registrar, University of Madras Chennai-5” for admission to all the programmes.
Application can also be downloaded form the University website at www.unom.ac.in. However, the cost of application for Rs.200/- by means of Demand Draft shall be enclosed, failing which the application will be summarily rejected.
