The Indian Law Institute (ILI) was founded in 1956 primarily with the objective of promoting and conducting legal research. The objectives of the Institute as laid down in its Memorandum of Association are to cultivate the science of law, to promote advanced studies and research in law so as to meet the social, economic and other needs of the Indian people, to promote systematization of law, to encourage and conduct investigations in legal and allied fields, to improve legal education, to impart instructions in law, and to publish studies, books, periodicals, etc.The Institute is an autonomous body registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, the Indian Law Institute has the requisite independence and academic freedom to carry out its objectives. The membership of the Institute is now nearly three thousand representing the persons interested in the study and advancement of law.
Eligibility : LL.B. Degree (with not less than 50% marks) recognized by Bar Council of India as eligible for enrolment as an advocate in India or A Law Degree from a foreign country with at least 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.The candidates appearing in the qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply but their admission will be subject to production of proof of having acquired minimum prescribed qualification, at the time of admission. If the result of the qualifying examination is not declared till the date of admission, his/her admission shall be provisional. Such candidate shall give an undertaking that he/she is taking the provisional admission at his/her risk and that he/she shall submit the result of qualifying examination on or before 30.09.2010. In case the candidate fails to submit his/her final result of qualifying examination to prove his/her eligibility on or before 30.09.2010 for any reason whatsoever, his/her admission shall be treated as cancelled and the entire fee forfeited. Duration, Continuation and Termination of the LL.M. Course:The duration of the course is 2 years comprising of 4 semesters. However the students have an option to complete the course within one and a half years under special circumstances with the prior approval of the Academic Programme Committee. In such a case, the student has to produce publishable research papers & dissertation before he/she could be granted the leave to finish the entire course in 1½ years. Students would be graded out of the maximum 1500 marks as per teaching scheme. The following guidelines have been prescribed by the Institute for the students to exercise the option of completing the LL.M. Course within one and a half years:– (i) ‘Special Circumstances’ means a student who has an exceptional academic record, securing at least 65% marks in the aggregate in the first two semesters, with over 60% marks in each paper, and having passed all the papers in the first attempt. In addition the student must have secured 80% attendance in each of the first two semesters, (ii) A student whose research papers have been published or accepted for publication in a reputed journal/ publication, and (iii) A student who has secured over 70% marks in at least two out of three research papers submitted in the first two semesters. A student opting for early completion of the LL.M. Course must also submit a synopsis, which in the opinion of the Academic Programmes Committee is very good. Students who fulfil all the above criteria may be permitted to submit their dissertation early, but not later than December 31st of the third semester of the year on the recommendation of the Academic Programme Committee.Regular classes will be held in ILI from Monday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. onwards.
Fees Structure:1) LL.M. – 2 year course – 12,000 (per semester) University Enrollment Fee – 1,500 Security Deposit – 3,000 Total fee payable at the time of admission – 16,500
2) LL.M. (Evening) – 3 year course – 12,000 (per semester) University Enrollment Fee – 1,500 Security Deposit – 3,000 Total fee payable at the time of admission – 16,500
One time payment at the time of admission (non – refundable).One time payment at the time of admission (refundable).Examination fee of Rs. 1,500/- per semester is payable one month before the commencement of Semester End Examinations to be notified separately for LL.M. programme. Study material/ Text books on relevant subjects would also be provided by the Institute to the students after admission on payment of prescribed fee, to be notified separately .
