ADMISSION FOR MBBS/B.Pharm. COURSE-2008

The Banaras Hindu University will hold All India COMPETITIVE WRITTEN TEST for admission to MBBS course (55 seats) in TWO stages: PMT/PAT-2008 SCREENING and PMT-2008 MAIN, and to B. Pharm. course (25 seats) in ONE stage: PMT/PAT-2008 Screening. PMT/PAT-2008 SCREENING shall be held on Wednesday, the 7th May 2008 at Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad Centres, to screen candidates for eligibility to take PMT-2008 MAIN examination for MBBS course which will be held on Sunday, the 15th June 2008 at Varanasi Centre only. For B. Pharm. course, candidates will be selected on the basis of their merit in the PMT/PAT-2008 SCREENING.
ELIGIBILITY : QUALIFICATIONS - Passed Intermediate, 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology + Botany) taken together. Candidates appearing in qualifying examination may also apply.
DISTRIBUTION OF SEATS: M.B.B.S.: General – 40; SC – 9; ST – 4; Physically disabled (PD) – 2; B.Pharm.: As per Government of India Reservation Policy.
AGE: Completed 17 years but not crossed 25 years as on 31st December, 2008 (Candidates born after 1st January, 1992 and on or before 31st December, 1983 need not apply).

BY POSTAL CHANNEL : From the Office of the Director (PMT-Cell), Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-221 005 by sending a written request through Registered Post along with Crossed Demand Draft/Bankers Cheque (MICR only) of Rs. 1060/- (Rs. 660/- for SC/ST candidates) of a Nationalized Bank, drawn in favour of “The Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU” payable at Varanasi. Application form will be sent by Speed / Registered Post. However, Institute will not be responsible for any loss or postal delay. The request for application form must include the name and address of the candidate, and full particulars of the enclosed DD/BC (write candidate’s name and address on the back of DD). Two self-addressed, preferably typed, white paper slips of 10 cm ´ 6 cm size MUST also accompany it. The ENVELOP containing requisition for PMT/PAT application form should be super scribed “Request for Application for PMT/PAT-2008, BHU”. Last date of requisition for PMT/PAT form by post is Wednesday, the 20th February 2008. Incomplete/non-cashable Draft (under amount/unsigned/ without Bank Code No. & Seal) shall not be accepted. NOTE: (a) Separate Bank Draft will be required for each application form. (b) M.O./I.P.O./Cheques shall NOT be accepted under any circumstances. Application Forms from the Office of the Director (PMT-Cell), Institute of Medical Sciences, can be obtained by POST only and not in person. GAT-2008 – GITAM UNIVERSITY ADMISSION TEST – 2008 is conducted through a Computerbased Online Test for making admissions into B.Tech., BEM, BCA and integrated five year M.Sc.Degree Programmes of GITAM UNIVERSITY, Visakhapatnam for the academic year2008-09.



GITAM UNIVERSITY, Visakhapatnam has been established in 2007 under Section 3 of the UGCAct 1956 vide notification No.F.9-37/2006-U.3 (A) dated 13 August, 2007 of Govt. of India.


GAT-2008 is conducted through computer based online test from 15th April to 14th May 2008
throughout the country for admission into the following programmes for 2008-09 :

Eligibility: For admission into all the above programmes, the candidates should have passed 10+2/12th examinationfrom a recognized Central / State Board or its equivalent either in 2008 or 2007 subject to securingthe following percentage of marks in specified subjects.
i) B.Tech. Programmes (other than Biotechnology) : A minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
ii) B.Tech. in Biotechnology: A minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Mathematics or Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
iii) BCA : A minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry.
iv) BEM and 5 year integrated M.Sc. Programmes: A minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in Mathematics or Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

GITAM UNIVERSITY MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN TO TOP 100 RANKERS OF GAT-2008

Students who are appearing for 10+2/12th examination in 2008 or who have passed 10+2/12th Examinationin 2007 only are eligible to appear in the GAT-2008. Students who have passed 10+2/12th examinationin 2006 or earlier are NOT eligible to appear in GAT-2008.


Details of GAT-2008:

Computer Based Online test means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and the candidate submits the answers through the use of keyboardor mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the questions set and delivers itto the candidate on the computer. This is unlike the traditional paper-pencil based test, which is generallyoffered on a single day to all candidates. GAT-2008 will be offered over a period of time and the candidatecan choose the center, the day and time of his/her convenience to take the test, as described in thelater sections.


GAT–2008 Test Format:
GAT–2008 will be of total 2 hour duration (without break). The test consists of three parts:
Part I : Mathematics / Biology Part II : Physics Part III : Chemistry


Candidates who appear in Biology or Mathematics in Part I of GAT–2008 will be eligible for admission to B.Tech. in Biotechnology, BEM and five year integrated M.Sc. Programmes in Chemistry,Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Microbiology. Candidates who appear in Mathematics in partI of GAT-2008 will be eligible for admission into all courses.

How to apply: for GAT-2008 :
Interested candidates should register their names for GAT–2008 by applying in the prescribed application form which can be obtained in one of the following modes :
Download the application form online at http:/www.gitam.edu and take the print out. The filled in application form along with prescribed fees of Rs.1000/- (Rupees One thousand only)

in case of male candidates and Rs.600/- (Rupees Six hundred only) in case of female candidates by way of Demand Draft payable at Visakhapatnam from any scheduled bank shouldbe sent to Director–Admissions, GITAM UNIVERSITY, Visakhapatnam-530 045.

OR Obtain the application form from any one of the selected branches of Union Bank of India throughoutIndia
or
(ii) Obtain the application form by post from the Director, Admissions GITAM UNIVERSITY, Visakhapatnam by sending a request on plain paper giving the candidate’s name and mailing address, accompanied by a crossed demand draft for Rs.1,100/- (Rupees One thousand one hundred only) in case of male candidates and Rs. 700/- (Rupees Seven hundred only) in case of female candidates. The application form will be sent by Speed Post / Registered Post.


Requests by post will be accepted only till 5th March, 2008. Demand Drafts should be drawn

in favour of GITAM UNIVERSITY, payable at Visakhapatnam on any scheduled bank.


Special provision for Female candidates:

The GAT-2008 application fee for female candidates is Rs.600/- (Res.700/- by post) only instead ofRs.1,000/- Rs.1100/- Further, the University will try its best to accommodate all female candidates at their first preference of test centers.


Procedure for applying for Admission:

In addition to applying for and appearing in GAT-2008, candidates have to also apply for admission to GITAM UNIVERSITY giving details of their 10+2/12th marks and preferences to different degreeprogrammes offered along with D.D. for Rs.200/- drawn in favour of GITAM UNIVERSITY payable at Visakhapatnam. The prescribed application form(s) for admission will be available at the GITAM UNIVERSITY website (www.gitam.edu) by 30th April 2008. The application form can also be obtained by post from Director-Admissions by sending a D.D. for Rs.250/-.


Merit List for Admission:

As explained earlier, a candidate who has appeared in GAT-2008 will be eligible for admission only if he/she gets the required minimum marks in the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology subject of 10+2/12th examination as per the eligibility criteria. All the candidates who have appeared in GAT-2008 and are interested in admission will be required to submit an application with 10+2/12th marksand preferences to different degree programmes offered, on or before 30th June 2008.

Admissions will be purely on merit and by following the rule of reservation applicable to GITAM

UNIVERSITY. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtainedby the candidate in the GAT-2008. The merit position of such eligible candidates (i.e. those who have appeared in GAT-2008 and havesubmitted the application for admission in the prescribed form(s) with 10+2/12th marks, preferences and the required fees) will be prepared on the basis of their scores in GAT-2008. When the score of two candidates are the same, first their scores obtained in Mathematics (if he/she has taken Mathematics in GAT-2008) or Biology (if he/she has taken Biology in GAT-2008) will be considered for separating them. If the scores obtained in Mathematics / Biology are equal, then their scores in Physics in GAT-2008 will be considered for separating them. If still there is a tie, their MPC (if he/she has taken Mathematics in GAT-2008) or Bi.PC (if he /she has taken Biology in GAT-2008) total marks in 10+2/12th examination will be considered for their separation.

Balasubramanian, is the founder of the society and holds the the President of Sri Balaji Society; the Executive Director of BIMM and the Dean of BITM, BIIB and BIMHRD. This institute will select the best possible candidates for all the Institutes from amongst the common pool of all the candidates applied for admission to any or all the institutes of Sri Balaji Society; although such a consideration arises only when a candidate is not selected for admission to the particular institute to which he or she may have applied originally. By doing so, there is no way taking away any opportunity from anyone but are providing an additional opportunity to get selected in any of the prestigious institutes of Sri Balaji Society. Centralized Admission process: The admission process for the management institutes of Sri Balaji Society will be undertaken centrally in the centres mentioned in the prospectus.
ELIGIBLITY: 1. A Graduate from any statutory University with a track record of 60% of marks i.e. minimum of 60% in 10th std., 12th std. and Graduation. (55% for SC/ST and physically disabled candidates. 2. Candidates appearing for the final year Degree examination up to June 2008 can also apply. However, if they fail to match the above qualitative requirement when the result is declared for the graduation examination, they will be relieved from the course compulsorily. Same will be the case in respect of those who fail in their degree examination. The mark sheets should be submitted to the Institute latest by first week of October, 2008. 3. Only those who have more than two years of industrial work experience in the field of sales, marketing, human resource, finance, operations, systems and related areas of management are eligible to apply for our PGDM - Executive Batch (Full Time). These applicants should submit the industry experience certificate signed by the Director (HR) of the Company / Companies and copies of their Appointment Letters along with the application form. There will be no difference in the course curriculum for this batch and they will receive the same input as applicable to the PGDM Programme except the fact that they can expect lateral placements. 4. Candidates passing degree examination by part time/distance learning/ correspondence/open school/externally or in one sitting are not eligible.
RESERVATIONS: 15% of seats reserved for SC candidates - 7.5% of seats reserved for ST candidates - 3% seats reserved for "physically handicapped candidates with a 40% and above disability - 15% seats are reserved for Management quota.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
HOW TO APPLY: Application form for Full Time programmes is a part of this prospectus. This includes: (a) Application form, (b) Admit Card and (c) One envelope (The candidates need to mention the present address for correspondence). All these documents, mentioned above bear the same prospectus number, need to be duly filled and submitted to BIMM.
Application form and Prospectus for the programme of choice can be obtained in the below- mentioned Six (6) ways; the completed form has to be submitted to the Institute a week before the exam for respective Centres.
By Hand: Remit Rs.1100/- (Rupees Eleven Hundred only) by cash at the Institute's Admissions office between 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. By Post/ Courier: Send a Demand Draft for Rs.1100/- (Rupees Eleven Hundred only) drawn in favour of “Director, BIMM, Pune ” . Write the name & address of the applicant on the reverse side of Demand Draft.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION: This institue are not holding the Balaji Admission Test (BAT) this year. Similarly, no spot registration for BIMM / BIIB will be held this year. Only short listed candidates on the basis of CAT/ MAT/ XAT/ ATMA will be called for GD and PI in different centres. Therefore, it is necessary that those who have not appeared in any of the national test mentioned above should appear for ATMA test now. The ATMA test is scheduled to be held on 10th Feb. 2008. Since this is the only examination yet to be held, all the aspirants should immediately obtain the application for ATMA examination. For more details about ATMA test, please visit www.atma-aims.org. All the Institutes of Sri Balaji Society accept most recent CAT/ MAT/ XAT/ ATMA scores which should be attached with the application form.

Short listed candidates for GD & PI will be notified about the exact date, time and venue on our website latest by 2nd March, 2008. Candidates will also be informed by email. Therefore, providing the correct email ID in the application form is mandatory.
HALL TICKET: Issued by the Institute Admit Card issued to any centre is valid for all the centres and candidates can appear before the selection committee in any centre provided they have informed about their intention to appear before a selection centre other than the one mentioned in the admit card well in advance. No separate communication for change of centre will be communicated by this institute.
Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD / PI): Candidates who have been screened through the written test score (CAT/ MAT/ XAT/ ATMA) will be called for group discussion and interview. The group discussion generally aims at measuring the skills, knowledge, attitude, social behaviour, leadership, personality, etc. of the candidates. Group discussion is an elimination round. The purpose of interview is to measure aptitude, subject knowledge, business awareness, communication skills and suitability for corporate careers.

MERIT LIST: On completion of interviews, we compare the performance of all candidates appearing for the interview and generate a final merit list based on their overall performance. Weightage is given to written test score, academic performance, work experience, group discussion score and personal interview score. Additional weightage will be given to those candidates who have completed/pursuing a four year degree or any other professional qualification such as CA/ CS/ ICWA etc. As a socially conscious trust this institute believe in the upliftment of the women candidates and hence a minimum of 50% of the seats may be considered for women candidates provided they are otherwise suitable.
CONFIRMATION OF ADMISSION: Selected students will be required to remit the first installment of the course fees within one month from the date of issue of admission letter to confirm the admission.

Note: (1) Those who were qualified in Technical Aptitude Test & applications were rejected in the session of Jan 2007 and July 2007 are exempted from Technical Aptitude Test. However they shall also apply. (2) Candidate who qualified in GATE or equivalent National level test within past 5 years or in the university level Research Aptitude Test, the result of which shall be valid for a period of three years. Such candidates are also exempted from Technical Aptitude Test, however they shall also submit the application.
