The M. Tech. and M. Phil programmes follow semester based system for evaluation ofstudents performance. M.Tech programmes are of four semester duration and M. Phil programmesare of two semester duration. In M. Tech. programmes, 1st two semesters are devoted to class roomteaching and during 3rd and 4th semester a student has to complete a project work and in case ofM. Phil. Programmes, 1st semester is devoted to class room teaching and the student has tocomplete a project work during the second semester.
Scholarship: The scholarship will be offered to those students who have qualified GATE (for M. Tech.programme)/NET (for M. Phil. programme) examination. However a GATE/NET qualified studentdoes not automatically become eligible to receive scholarship. The scholarship will be offered tothe students on the basis of merit in the respective category. Non GATE/NET candidates andsponsored candidates are not eligible for scholarship.
Hostel FacilityThe M. Tech./M. Phil. Programmes are fully residential and students are essentiallyrequired to reside in hostel. Separate girls hostel is also available within the campus. Studentsmanage their own messes in their hostel and bear the expenses each month. If the parents/localguardian resides within a radius of 8 kms of the campus, the student may be permitted to stay withhis/her parents/guardian.
Admission Procedure
Application for Admission: Request for Application Form and Information Bulletin may be sent on plain paper to theAssistant Registrar (Academic), Indian School of Mines University, Dhanbad along with a crosseddemand draft of Rs.500/- drawn in favour of Registrar, Indian School of Mines University,Dhanbad payable at State Bank of India, ISM Campus Branch, Dhanbad (Code No. 1641) anda self addressed unstamped envelope of size 23 cms X 15 cms superscribing ‘Request for PGApplication Form’ on or before March 21, 2008. The Application Form and Information Bulletincan also be obtained from the Academic Section on payment of Rs.500/- at the cash counter of theUniversity up to 28 March, 2008. A candidate may apply for a maximum upto threeprogrammes only. If candidate applies for more than three programmes, in a single applicationform, his/her application will summarily be rejected.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess Bachelors degree in appropriate branch ofEngineering/Technology from AICTE approved institution with at least 55% marks in aggregate.Similarly, candidates opting for admission in M.Phil programme should possess 55% marks in therespective qualifying examinations form an approved college/university. The requirement ofminimum percentage of marks may be waived off for the teacher who have joined the teachingprofession on or before February 28, 1991.The eligibility criteria for different programmes are presented in 2.1 of this bulletin. Thecandidates who have appeared in the qualifying examination may also apply for admission.However, they will be required to submit their final result of the qualifying examination latest byAugust 31, 2008 failing which their admission will be cancelled.The candidates whose final results are not declared, the weightage will be considered upto7 th semester or pre final stage. Candidates must have completed all their examinations beforeadmission to the PG programme, except declaration of the results..
Submission of Application Form: The duly filled in Application Form should be accompanied with the following documents.a) A recent passport size photograph pasted on each application form.b) The copies of the certificates and marksheets (including GATE/NET score) startingmatriculation/school final examination attested by a Gazetted Officer or the principal ofthe institution last attended. The original certificates are required to be produced at thetime of admission.c) Original Migration Certificate is required at the time of admission.d) An unstamped self addressed envelope of size 23 cms X 15 cms.e) Self addressed sticker 4 piecesApplications received without the above documents will be rejected. Application fee once paidwill not be refundable under any circumstances.Programme Fee for the first semester has to be paid at the time of admission. Caution money andsecurity deposits are refundable only after completion of the programme. Fees for subsequentsemesters are to be paid before the commencement of the respective semesters.The duly filled-in application form must reach the Assistant Registrar (Academic), IndianSchool of Mines University, Dhanbad – 826004 latest by April 04, 2008.
Admission: Admission to a programme shall be made on the basis of (a) GATE/NET Score, (b) performance inthe qualifying degree, and (c) performance of the candidate in the interview to be conducted at theUniversity. However written test will be conducted for all candidates seeking admission to M.Tech. programme in Computer Application on June 09, 2008. If sufficient GATE/NET candidatesare not available, Non GATE/NET candidates may be considered for admission to M. Tech./M.Phil. Programmes. Non GATE/NET candidates and sponsored candidates called for interview willhave to appear a written test on June 09, 2008. No TA/DA will be admissible for attending thewritten test/interviews. The interviews will be held on June 10-11, 2008.
Sponsorship: Sponsored candidates will not be eligible for scholarship even if they are admitted on the basis ofGATE/NET score. Candidates must have at least two years full time work experience in agovernment organization or companies of repute in the relevant field. There is no agerestriction for sponsored candidates but preference will be given to those candidates below 45 yearsof age. The employer must indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn from the programmebefore its completion. Sponsorship in this context means retention of lien on the post and grant ofsuitable allowance/pay etc. by the parent organization. Candidates working in UGC/CSIR/AtomicEnergy. Fellowship etc shall not be consider as sponsored candidate. Candidate shall not beallowed to join his organization before completion of the programme.
Important Points (to be noted by the candidates)
(a) If adequate number of students are not available in particular programme, the Universitymay not run that programme. In such situation the demand draft received towards paymentof fee shall be returned to the candidate.(b) If a M.Tech student leaves the programme at any time within 24 months, he/she shall bedeemed to have withdrawn from the programme.(c) GATE/NET candidate will be given preference over non GATE/NET Candidates.(d) The application forms are of three different colours that can be used for applying upto threeprogrammes with 1 st /2 nd /3 rd preference only. While short – listing candidates forinterview/test, 1 st preference will be given higher weightage over 2 nd preference and so on.(e) Scholarship will not be paid to candidates having GATE/NET score less than the stipulatedlimit.(f) Candidate with equivalent qualifications recognized by Govt. of India such as AMIE, IETEetc. can also apply.(g) Main list candidates who fails to take admission by the given date may loose their claim andseat may be offered to wait listed candidates.(h) Fee once paid will not be refundable.(i) If any M.Tech/M.Phil programme does not run due to shortage of requisite number ofcandidates, the candidates who have taken admission in that programme may be allowed tochange his/her admission to other M.Tech/M.Phil programme (even if the candidates hasnot/ applied for that programme), where vacant seat is available in the respective categoriesand the qualification of the candidate matches with the eligibility condition of thatprogramme.(j) Student are required to maintain 75% attendance in the semester classes to make him/herelilgible for the end semester examination.The completed application form should reach to,THE ASSTT. Effective implementation of health and nutrition programmes call for adequately trained healthprofessionals. The Post-Graduate Certificate Course in nutrition is one of the short-term intensivetraining programmes in nutrition offered by the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, India, forpersons involved in medical education and public health.
Goals: 1. To provide the participants an exposure to the latest developments in nutrition science withparticular reference to nutritional disorders and strategies for their prevention and controlincluding allied aspects which are relevant to developing countries. 2. To enable them to develop the necessary leadership in planning, implementation and evaluationof nutrition programmes, which benefit the community. 3. However, tuition fee is payable by overseas participants, as per the prevailing rules. The current rate is US $ 200-00 per head per monthfor overseas participants.
Examination and Award of Certificate: Participants are judged on the basis of : (i) performance at seminars (ii) execution of individualprojects assigned to them (iii) group educational activities including task analysis and (iv) results offormative and summative evaluations in the form of quizzes, exercises and examination. On theirsuccessful completion of the course, participants receive a formal certificate from the Institute.Boarding and
Lodging: Accommodation is available for the participants at the International Hostel on NIN campus onreasonable payment.ApplicationsProcedureApplications from Indian participants are to be submitted in the prescribed form. IIT Madras offers Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination 2008.
Details:
* Examination date is Sunday, May 18, 2008 between10 AM - 1 PM
* Sale of application commences on January 28, 2008

* Five year integrated master's programme, leading to MA degree in three disciplines - Development Studies, Economics and English Studies.
* One objective type question paper of three hour duration in English and Comprehension Skill, Analytical and Quantitative Ability and General Knowledge covering the areas of Indian Economy (since Independence), Indian Society, Contemporary World Affairs (Post-World War II), and Environment and Ecology. Eligibility:

Details of GAT-2008:
Computer Based Online test means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and the candidate submits the answers through the use of keyboardor mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the questions set and delivers itto the candidate on the computer. This is unlike the traditional paper-pencil based test, which is generallyoffered on a single day to all candidates. GAT-2008 will be offered over a period of time and the candidatecan choose the center, the day and time of his/her convenience to take the test, as described in thelater sections.
GAT–2008 Test Format:
GAT–2008 will be of total 2 hour duration (without break). The test consists of three parts:
Part I : Mathematics / Biology Part II : Physics Part III : Chemistry
Candidates who appear in Biology or Mathematics in Part I of GAT–2008 will be eligible for admission to B.Tech. in Biotechnology, BEM and five year integrated M.Sc. Programmes in Chemistry,Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Microbiology. Candidates who appear in Mathematics in partI of GAT-2008 will be eligible for admission into all courses.

(ii) Obtain the application form by post from the Director, Admissions GITAM UNIVERSITY, Visakhapatnam by sending a request on plain paper giving the candidate’s name and mailing address, accompanied by a crossed demand draft for Rs.1,100/- (Rupees One thousand one hundred only) in case of male candidates and Rs. 700/- (Rupees Seven hundred only) in case of female candidates. The application form will be sent by Speed Post / Registered Post.
Requests by post will be accepted only till 5th March, 2008. Demand Drafts should be drawn
in favour of GITAM UNIVERSITY, payable at Visakhapatnam on any scheduled bank.
Special provision for Female candidates:
The GAT-2008 application fee for female candidates is Rs.600/- (Res.700/- by post) only instead ofRs.1,000/- Rs.1100/- Further, the University will try its best to accommodate all female candidates at their first preference of test centers.
Procedure for applying for Admission:
In addition to applying for and appearing in GAT-2008, candidates have to also apply for admission to GITAM UNIVERSITY giving details of their 10+2/12th marks and preferences to different degreeprogrammes offered along with D.D. for Rs.200/- drawn in favour of GITAM UNIVERSITY payable at Visakhapatnam. The prescribed application form(s) for admission will be available at the GITAM UNIVERSITY website (www.gitam.edu) by 30th April 2008. The application form can also be obtained by post from Director-Admissions by sending a D.D. for Rs.250/-.
Merit List for Admission:
As explained earlier, a candidate who has appeared in GAT-2008 will be eligible for admission only if he/she gets the required minimum marks in the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology subject of 10+2/12th examination as per the eligibility criteria. All the candidates who have appeared in GAT-2008 and are interested in admission will be required to submit an application with 10+2/12th marksand preferences to different degree programmes offered, on or before 30th June 2008.
Admissions will be purely on merit and by following the rule of reservation applicable to GITAM
UNIVERSITY. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtainedby the candidate in the GAT-2008. The merit position of such eligible candidates (i.e. those who have appeared in GAT-2008 and havesubmitted the application for admission in the prescribed form(s) with 10+2/12th marks, preferences and the required fees) will be prepared on the basis of their scores in GAT-2008. When the score of two candidates are the same, first their scores obtained in Mathematics (if he/she has taken Mathematics in GAT-2008) or Biology (if he/she has taken Biology in GAT-2008) will be considered for separating them. If the scores obtained in Mathematics / Biology are equal, then their scores in Physics in GAT-2008 will be considered for separating them. If still there is a tie, their MPC (if he/she has taken Mathematics in GAT-2008) or Bi.PC (if he /she has taken Biology in GAT-2008) total marks in 10+2/12th examination will be considered for their separation.
Direct Admission to Board Toppers:
First rank candidates of all the central and state boards in India for the year 2008 will be given
direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their GAT-2008 score as per the eligibility criteria mentioned above.
