The Banaras Hindu University will hold All India COMPETITIVE WRITTEN TEST for admission to MBBS course (55 seats) in TWO stages: PMT/PAT-2008 SCREENING and PMT-2008 MAIN, and to B. Pharm. course (25 seats) in ONE stage: PMT/PAT-2008 Screening. PMT/PAT-2008 SCREENING shall be held on Wednesday, the 7th May 2008 at Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad Centres, to screen candidates for eligibility to take PMT-2008 MAIN examination for MBBS course which will be held on Sunday, the 15th June 2008 at Varanasi Centre only. For B. Pharm. course, candidates will be selected on the basis of their merit in the PMT/PAT-2008 SCREENING.
ELIGIBILITY : QUALIFICATIONS - Passed Intermediate, 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology + Botany) taken together. Candidates appearing in qualifying examination may also apply.
DISTRIBUTION OF SEATS: M.B.B.S.: General – 40; SC – 9; ST – 4; Physically disabled (PD) – 2; B.Pharm.: As per Government of India Reservation Policy.

Application form will be sent by Speed / Registered Post. However, Institute will not be responsible for any loss or postal delay. The request for application form must include the name and address of the candidate, and full particulars of the enclosed DD/BC (write candidate’s name and address on the back of DD). Two self-addressed, preferably typed, white paper slips of 10 cm ´ 6 cm size MUST also accompany it. The ENVELOP containing requisition for PMT/PAT application form should be super scribed “Request for Application for PMT/PAT-2008, BHU”. Applications are invited for the following programmes form the candidates having qualifications as shown against each programme. Stipend/Fellowship as mentioned against each programme will be available to the deserving candidates.

1. 3 Year B.Stat. (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years for Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs.800/- per month. (Offered in Kolkata).

2. 3 Year B.Math. (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs.800/- per months. (Offered in Bangalore).

3. 2 Year M.Stat.: 3year Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics as full subject or a B.Stat./B.Math. degree from the Indian Statistical Institute or a Statistician’s Diploma/Senior Diploma in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute. Stipend Rs.1200/- per month. (Offered in Kolkata).

4. 2 Year M.Math. : 3 Year Bachelor’s degree or a B.E/B.Tech degree with Mathematics and an exceptionally stron background in Analysis and Abstract Algebra or a B.Stat/B.Math. degree form the Indian Statistical Institute. Stipend Rs.1200/- per month. (Offered in Kolkata).

5. 2 Year Master of Science (M.S.) in Quantitative Economics: 3 years Bachelor’s degree in Economics/ Mathematics/Statistics/Physics or a B.Stat. degree from the Indian Statistical Institute, Engineering graduates are also eligible. Candidates should have knowledge of Economics and Mathematics at the B.A/B.Sc pass level. Stipend Rs.1200/- per month. (Offered in Kokkata & Delhi)

6. 2 Year Master of Science (M.S.) in Library and Information Science: 3 year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. The candidates must have secured at least 60 marks in the Bachelor’s Degree. Stipend Rs.1200/- per month. (Offered in Bangalore).

7. 2 Year M.Tech. in Computer Science: (i) Master’s degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Physics/Electronic Science/Computer Science/ Computer Applications/Information Technology or, (ii) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE or GRADIETE or, DOEACC ‘B’ Level). Stipend Rs. 5000/- per month. (Offered in Kolkata).

8. 2 Year M.Tech in Qualify, Reliability and Operations Research: (i) Masters degree in Statistics or Master’s degree in Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent or PG diploma in SQC & OR from the Indian Statistical Institute and (ii) Knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level and knowledge of Physics and Chemistry at Higher Secondary level. Stipend Rs.5000/- per month. (Offered in Kolkata).

9. Junior Research Fellowships:
(a) Statistics: (i) A good academic record with M.Stat. M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Statistics or, (ii) Outstanding mathematical maturity with B.Stat./B.Math., B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent degree with Statistics as the main Subject.

(b) Mathematics: (i) A good academic record with M.Stat. M.Math., M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Mathematics or (ii) Outstanding Mathematical maturity with B.Stat./B.Math., B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent degree with Mathematics as the main Subject.

(c) Quantitative Economics: (i) A good academic record with M.S. (QE), M.Stat., M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/Econometrics or, (ii) Outstanding Mathematical maturity with B.A./B.Sc. degree with Economics as the main Subject. A Candidate possessing a Master’s degree in any subject with Mathematics/Statistics at B.A. / B.Sc. (Pass) level is also eligible.

(d) Computer Science: A good academic record with M.E./M.Tech or equivalent degree in Electronics/ Telecommunication/Radio Physics/ Computer Science/ Electrical Engineering/Microwave Communications/ Information Technology or a good academic record with M.Sc/M.C.A./M.A. or equivalent degree in Physics/Mathematics/Statistics/Electronic Sciences/ Computer Science/Atmospheric Science/Information Technology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having B.E./B.Tech./ Equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible.

(e) Biological Anthropology: A good academic record with M.Sc. in Anthropology (Specialization in Physical / Biological Anthropology).

(f) Physics and Applied Mathematics: A good academic record with M.Sc. in Physics/Mathematics Statistics.

(g) Agriculture & Ecology: A good academic record with M.Sc. in Environmental Science/ Botany (Specialization in Ecology/Plant Physiology)

(h) Sociology: A Good academic record with M.A/ M.Sc. Sociology or equivalent degree in Sociology/Anthropology Economics/History or any other subject in Social Sciences.

(i) Geology: A good academic record with M.Sc Geology/ Applied Geology or equivalent or, M.Sc. in Chemistry (Specialization in Physical Chemistry).

(j) Human Genetics: A good academic record with M.Stat/M.Sc. in Statistics. Candidate has to take the JRF (Statistics) selection tests.

(k) Psychology: A good academic record with M.A./M.Sc in Psychology/ Applied Psychology.

(l) Demography: A good academic record with Master’s degree in Statistics/Demography/Economics/ Population Science/Population Studies/ Applied Mathematics.

(m) Library and Information Science: A good academic record with Associateship in Documentation and Information Science of the Indian Statistical Institute or INSDOC or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with at least 55% marks in undergraduate and post graduate degree programmes.

Fellowship of 9(a) to 9 (m): (i) Applicants with M.E./ M.Tech. or equivalent: Rs. 9000/- per month and (ii) Others: Rs.8000/- per months. A Special Fellowship of Rs. 12000/- pm. Is also available for outstanding candidates in each of the subjects: (i) Statistics (ii) Mathematics (iii) Computer Science, and (iv) Quantitative Economics. Fellowships are like to be revise.

Remaining JRF programmes are offered only in Kokata. Selection of candidates is based on academic record, written tests and intervies conducted by the Institue. Due consideration is given to SC/ST/Physically Challenged candidates for all courses (excluding fellowship programmes). Eligibility: A Pass in any bachelor's degree examination of the Mahatma Gandhi University or an equivalent degree of any other university duly recognized by the Mahatma Gandhi University with not less than 50 percent marks in aggregates, i.e. in all parts of examination, for arts and commerce degrees, and 55 percent for all other degree candidates or 50% marks in aggregate in a Master's Degree Examination of the Mahatma Gandhi University. The candidates belonging to the SC/ST communities shall the eligible for a Concession of marks up to 5 percent in the aggravates to determine their eligibility.

Admission procedure: Admission to the M.B.A (full time) degree programmed shall be on the basis of merit as determined by the admission scores obtained by the candidate seeking admission computed by aggregating the weight age of marks of the candidate in the qualifying examination at the bachelor's or master's degree, as the case may be, the weight age of marks obtain by the candidates in an admission test and the weight age of marks obtained by the candidates by there candidates in the group discussion. and personal interview in a proportion such as: 40% for Academic Qualification, 30% for Admission test, 15% for Group Discussion, 15% for interview, Marks of the academic qualification it calculated as 40% of the maximum marks scored by a candidate in the aggregate if the marks obtained by the candidate as 75% and above, the ceiling will be 75% (Total marks will be converted to 75).

Candidates for the interview shall be called on a 1:3 basis (3 times of sanctioned strength). The admission test is designed to assess the ability of the candidate in Verbal reasoning, Quantitative reasoning, data interpretation, mathematical comprehension and proficiency in English. Admission to the MBA Programme at the School of Management and Business Studies of the Mahatma Gandhi University shall be on the basis of the admission test conducted under the supervision of a committee as decided by the M.G. University. This College's Management has the right to reject admission to any student without assigning reasons.

Eligibility: Any person who is a graduate (in any discipline of study, including Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Technology or Management) or above from any University recognized by UGC or students appearing for final year graduation will be eligible to enroll for the examination. Registration for Course and Examination and Fees:
Registration will be in two stages: Stage 1 (Course Enrollment) : Candidates will be required to submit their application for enrolment for the DBF course against a payment of Fee of Rs.3,200/- upon which they will be given the Courseware and Application Form for the DBF Examination. Stage 2 (Examination Registration) : Candidates who are ready to give the examination should submit their examination application before the due date mentioned therein against payment of Examination Fee of Rs.1,800/-. The Examination Fee is one attempt of three subjects.

The Union Public Service Commission will be conducting the Combined Medical Services Examination, 2008 at 37 centers in the country on 3rd February 2008.
