NOTIFICATION
CSIR invites application for Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (SPM) Fellowship, 2008 from valid GATE scorecard holders with 99 percentile and above for pursuing innovative scientific research in science subjects of CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET). A maximum of 100 applicants (in all disciplines combined together) will be screened and admitted for interview to be held in National Chemical Laboratory, Pune between 12.07.2008 to 15.07-2008. Interested candidates may downloaded the application form from their website www.csirhrdg.rs.in and submit the same to the undersigned duly filled in all respect by 26-05-2008.
The age of the candidates applying for the fellowship should not be more than 28 years as on 01-01-2008. Candidates appearing for the SPM Fellowship 2008 selections will be reimbursed journey fare limited to the AC III Tier railway fare to and from Pune, from the station of their address given by them in their application form.
The list of accepted GATE applicants will be displayed on their website on or before 15-06-2008. The names along with the roll number of JRF NET awardees of June and December, 2007 who are found to be eligible for SPMF 2008 selections have already been displayed on their website.

CSIR SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE FELLOWSHIP - 2008
To commemorate the birth centenary year (2000) of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who was the first Vice-President of CSIR in the Independent India, the CSIR has instituted a special fellowship, namely, "DR. SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE (SPM) FELLOWSHIP" open to the selective CSIR-UGC JRF (NET) awardees.
Objective:
To nurture the budding scientific talent and to nourish the objective of pursuit of scientific research.
Scope:
Pursuing Ph.D programme with a special fellowship in CSIR Labs/other specialized R&D institutions/universities.
Nature of Fellowship:
Stipend : Rs.15000/- + HRA per month during the first two years of the fellowship and a Contingency grant of Rs.70000/- p.a. May be raised to Rs.18000/- + HRA per month from third year onwards on the basis of review/satisfactory progress. May be reverted to JRF (NET) if performance is not found satisfactory.
Duration: Initially for 2 years. Extendable as per normal rules for CSIR JRF (NET) Programmes; maximum up to 5 years.
Eligibility:
Around top 50 candidates in Life Sciences and Chemical Sciences and top 25 each in Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences & Earth Sciences (including candidates from reserved categories as per norms of NET) from each of the two NET examinations conducted in a calendar year and GATE qualified candidates in the subject areas of NET with percentile score of 99% and above shall be called for interview
Frequency of Selection
Once a year, normally in the month of July.
Selection Process
The eligible candidates shall be called for interview by a specially constituted panel of subject-experts for initial screening. The shortlisted candidates after first interview will be further interviewed by a panel of SPMF Core Committee members and subject- committee chairmen for making final recommendations. The process is likely to be completed by 3rd week of July, 2008
Application for SPM Fellowship procedure
CSIR notifies the roll numbers of the NET awardees, whose name find place among the top in the merit list for JRF (NET) and will send letters to them and to the eligible GATE applicants enclosing the relevant application Performa which is to be completed by the candidates and submitted to the DS(Exam)on the day of interview.
Schedule of selection process & date of commencement
The selection process will start after notification of results for December, 2007 NET and is likely to be completed by 3rd week of July, 2008
The expected date of commencement of SPM Fellowship will be from 1st August 2008.
