ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAM

The Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) invites application form individuals with strong motivation and good academic credentials to pursue research in frontier areas of modern biology leading to a Ph.D. degree in the broad areas of functional genomics, bioinformatics, comparative genomics and gene expression, disease genomics, allergy and infectious diseases, environmental biotechnology, proteomics, biophysical chemistry, nucleic acids and peptides design/ synthesis etc.

WHO CAN APPLY:
Masters’ degree in any branch of life sciences/ chemical sciences/ physical sciences / biotechnology/ mathematics/ statistics/ computer science or allied subjects with special interest in biology: M.Sc. candidates should also hold CSIR-UGC (JRF)/ICMR-JRF (fellowship certificate should be valid as on 1st August, 2008 in all the cases. DBT and ICMR fellowship conditions hold allow them to work under non-DBT and non-ICMR funded projects also).

Candidates possessing MBBS/MD/ MCA degree

Upper age limit is 28 years as on 15.05.2008 which is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC/Physically handicapped persons as well as women candidates as per Government of India rules in this regard.

HOW TO APPLY:
Applications, available at the Institute website (www.igib.res.in) have to be duly filled in with all the required attachments and sent electronically on or before 23rd May 2008.

OR

Completed applications (downloaded from www.igib.res.in) can also be sent along with passport-sized photographs to Chairman, Ph.D., program Committee, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Mall Road (Near Jubilee Hall), Delhi-110007 so as to reach on or before 23rd May, 2008.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Candidates found eligible after screening applications would have to appear for an aptitude test/e-test followed by an interview in the month of June/July 2008. Mere fulfilling of the minimum requirements stipulated in the advertisement would not automatically entitle a person for selection. The decision of Director, IGIB in this regard shall be final. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as a disqualification.

SPECIAL INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS:
IGIB organizes an innovative course-work in integrative biology for Ph.D. students. The program is specially designed to encourage young minds to think and generate integrative approaches towards contemporary challenges in biology. /the broad areas that would be covered in this course are information flow in biological systems, time and space in biological systems, biomolecules and cells: a systems biology approach, host-pathogen interactions, microbes and environment, bioinformatics and scientific communication skills-theory and practice. They believe that this course structure allow students to develop holistic understating of biological processes and help them develop into trans-disciplinary scientists and integrative biologist.
